Terms of service

These terms govern your use of Ontoshire. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them.

Who you are contracting with#

Ontoshire is operated by CI CODERS LTD, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 12099279, with its registered office at 3rd Floor 86-90 Paul Street, London, England, EC2A 4NE. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean CI CODERS LTD, and “you” means the person or organisation using the service.

What Ontoshire does#

Ontoshire is a registry and validation authority for ontologies. It links a GitHub repository to a published, versioned ontology, validates each version against SHACL shapes, and serves the result at stable URLs for browsing, querying and validation.

Your account#

Accounts are created by signing in with GitHub. You need a GitHub account, and you must be old enough to enter a contract in your jurisdiction. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your GitHub credentials and any Ontoshire API tokens secure. Tell us at support@ontoshire.com if you believe an account or token has been compromised.

Plans and payment#

  • The Free plan is available at no cost. Paid plans are billed in advance through Stripe, monthly or annually, at the prices shown on the pricing page.
  • Org plans are billed per seat. A seat is an active member of the linked GitHub organisation. Seat counts are reconciled automatically, and the amount billed can change between periods as members join or leave.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Cancellation and refunds are covered in the cancellation and refunds policy.
  • We may change prices. A change never affects the period you have already paid for, and we will give you notice before it applies to a renewal.

Your content#

You keep ownership of everything you publish. You grant us only the permission needed to run the service: to store, reproduce, parse, validate and serve your content, and, for content you mark public, to make it publicly available. That permission ends when you delete the content, except for backups still within their retention window.

You are responsible for having the right to publish what you publish, including any third-party ontologies you import or redistribute.

Public and private ontologies#

Public ontologies are visible to everyone, including through the public SPARQL endpoint and API, and may be cached, indexed or copied by third parties. Treat publishing as irreversible in practice: we can remove content from Ontoshire, but we cannot retract copies others have already taken.

Private ontologies require a paid plan. If your paid plan ends for any reason, including cancellation or a failed payment, private ontologies on that account or organisation are locked, never published. They stay private and are not deleted. Locked means they stop resolving for validation, imports and the API, which is the part of the service you were paying for. You can still view and export them, and resubscribing restores everything.

Acceptable use#

You agree not to:

  • publish unlawful content, or content you have no right to publish;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service, other accounts, or private content;
  • place a load on the service that degrades it for others, or work around rate limits;
  • use the service to distribute malware or to attack third parties.

Availability#

We work to keep Ontoshire available, but we do not promise uninterrupted service, and we do not currently offer a service level agreement on any plan. We may change or withdraw features. If we make a change that materially reduces a paid plan, you may cancel and we will refund the unused part of the period you have paid for.

Suspension and termination#

You may stop using Ontoshire at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, that we are legally required to act on, or that is being used in a way that endangers the service or other users. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will warn you first and give you a chance to put things right.

Liability#

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Subject to that: we provide the service as it is; validation results, imports and query responses are tools for you to use, not guarantees about your data, and you remain responsible for decisions you make from them. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill. Our total liability in any twelve-month period is limited to the amount you paid us in that period, or £100 if you are on the Free plan.

If you are using Ontoshire as a consumer rather than for business, you keep all rights you have under consumer law, and nothing here removes them.

Governing law#

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of its courts. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction.

Changes to these terms#

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects your rights, we will give reasonable notice before it takes effect, and continuing to use the service after that means you accept the change.
